What do we know about Sofia’s fountains and green spaces?

For a walk, both green places and access to water matter. The public catalogue gives us two ways to look at them — a register of drinking fountains and a geographic layer of parks and gardens.

What is published about the fountains?

The information was provided by the district administrations and compiled by the Waste Management and Circular Economy Directorate. The source description states it is current as of 28 July 2026. Search the table to see how a particular fountain is described. Table contents are shown as published, in Bulgarian.

The row count is not a count of fountains guaranteed to work. The register does not certify water quality or the fountain’s condition today.

Where are the green spaces?

Sofiaplan’s layer shows the boundaries of parks and gardens as of 14 September 2020. Select a feature on the map to see its attributes. It includes both built and unbuilt sites.

What can we conclude?

We can explore the published sites and check their attributes and sources. But the two datasets come from different periods and do not add up to an up-to-date walking route.

Assessing walking access, or whether there is a working fountain near a park, would need verified coordinates, comparable dates, a pedestrian network and current condition data.
